Fed: CPI influenced by sharp increase in food prices = 3

Mr Costello said recent excise cuts would put downward pressure on prices over the next quarters.

"As well as the reduction in excise in petrol, several other government policies are
likely to put downward pressure on prices of some consumer items over coming quarters,"

Mr Costello told journalists.

"Reduced excise rates on draught beer should be reflected in the CPI in the June quarter."
